Now for some of @katiroark and @jakeroark’s rece

Now for some of @katiroark and @jakeroark’s reception details. Their colors were white, black, and green. And in this instance I love how the green both bridged the strong contrast of the white and black, and tied all the decor into the beautifully treed outdoor space.

Typically, I am all about the compote centerpieces, I love the intimacy of them. But this time I’m especially smitten with these elevated centerpieces.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For two reasons …
1. Typical elevated designs are visually impressive but also formal. While Jacob and Kati had an elegance vision for their wedding they are also personally easy going and welcoming. And they intentionally selected an an outdoor venue. These designs nodded to the more formal elements of the day without being overly stuffy.

2. Elevated designs are tricky outdoors—especially in West Texas 💨; they are top heavy and quickly become “sails”. But these stands are well weighted. And, while the design is visually balanced the clusters of baby’s breath are quite light. Allowing the arrangements to stay stable and unmoved even when the breeze picked up towards the end of the night.

That’s a lot of technical information but these are the types of details I pay attention to because of the impact on the actual celebration.

The final affect was a beautiful but welcoming space. An atmosphere that invited engagement and connection and communicates Jake & Kati’s hospitable spirit. Which was evidenced in the enthusiastic celebrations and wholehearted conversation that permeated the evening.

Of course @katiroark bouquet needs more that it’s story sneak peek. Front seat pretties are fun but they don’t show the full depth and details of a bouquet. And with Kati’s bouquet we need a moment for the balance between soft romance and autumn textures.

Okay, this ceremony backdrop … I’m not even sure what to call it. A floral curtain? An illusion back drop? Magic?

@jakeroark and @katiroark wanted a ceremony focal point. But also purposely selected a beautiful outdoor setting. So I didn’t want the two elements to compete or for one to overpower the other.

Kati’s primary floral prescription was that she loves white roses and babies breath.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The roses we used in bouquets and in the reception. But the babies breath was the primary the ceremony element.

As I started dreaming up focal pieces from typical arches, to columns, I stumbled upon a curtain made of lunaria. (I haven’t been able to find the original source, but possibly Alea Joy or Sarah Winward?) I knew I could use baby’s breath in a similar way and that this curtain installation was the perfect solution for the space and Kati & Jake’s style.

They were the most trusting couple and signed off without question (or an exact image of the final design).

I so glad they did. The curtain almost disappears in pictures so you loose some of its affect in these squares but it was the most magical element in person.

Bonus: Sometimes what is best for photos isn’t best for real life. Always go for what is best in person. It will contribute to the atmosphere and your and your guests experience. You’ll remember how it felt and that’s more important than perfectly instagramable pictures.

Congratulations to @katimacha and @jakeroark on their marriage yesterday!

It was the loveliest day with the loveliest people. It was an honor to serve these two and their families (and, I am so grateful the rain held off.)

I couldn’t decided what to share first so here are a few clips and I’ll post more this week. Especially of the ceremony backdrop. It needs its own moment for sure!

Happy 1st Anniversary to @ninetytwocafe! They have added such a fun vibe to the Lubbock dinning scene by carefully curating every detail from food and service to decor and atmosphere. Their focus on excellence made it a double honor to be invited back to flower the cafe for this weekend’s festivities.
